Lexus GX 460
The 2017 GX 460 is powered by a robust 4.6-liter V8 engine with 6-speed sequential-shift electronically controlled automatic transmission, making 301 horsepower and 329 lb-ft of torque. It has full-time all-wheel drive and can tow up to 6,500 pounds, making it a great option for those who like to get out of L.A. for the weekend and head to the mountains. Its Torsen limited-slip center differential ensures even power distribution between front and rear axles, and Active Traction Control keeps you sure-footed on any terrain. Additionally, Lexus’s Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System gives you ease of driving while keeping the GX’s substantial body in control with stiff anti-roll bars.
Acura MDX
The 2017 MDX has a 3.5-liter V6 engine with a 9-speed automatic transmission, making 290 horsepower and 267 lb-ft of torque. It comes standard with front-wheel drive, but has the option for Super Handling All-Wheel Drive. The MDX’s towing capacity tops out at 5,000 pounds, which may be a deal-breaker for some. While the Acura SUV might perform on par in the city, it’s not a ute designed for off-roading.

The GX Premium adds a Navigation System with Lexus Enform Destinations, voice command, high-res LCD screen, leather interior trim, heated and ventilated seating, heated rear outboard seats, three-zone climate control, rain-sensing wipers, and Intuitive Parking Assist. The GX Luxury gives you a Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, power-folding and auto-dimming mirrors, wood- and leather-trimmed steering wheel, power third-row seats, second-row captain’s chairs, and more. The GX is also available with a dual-screen Rear Seat Entertainment System and 17-speaker Mark Levinson Surround Sound Audio.
Acura MDX
The 2017 MDX comes standard with a power moonroof, pushbutton ignition, Siri Eyes Free, SMS text function, Sirius XM Radio, rearview camera, three-zone climate control, and driver assistance technology. It does not come available with a seat and mirror memory system or an equivalent to the Lexus Enform apps.
The MDX with Technology Package includes the Acura Navigation System with 3D View, Acura Real-Time Traffic, Traffic Rerouting, and AcuraLink, while the Advance Package adds a DVD Rear Entertainment System and third-row USB ports. The MDX is also available with second-row captain’s chairs, heated and ventilated front seats, heated second-row outboard seats, a heated steering wheel, and sport seats with perforated Milano premium leather-trimmed seating. It does not come available with a premium 17-speaker surround sound system.
