2022 Lexus UX
If you are looking for luxury, the Lexus UX delivers with heated and ventilated seats. Additionally, the Lexus UX offers a comprehensive safety system that will put your mind at ease as you drive, especially with the addition of pedestrian and bicycle alerts. As far as technology goes, this SUV is equipped with Apple Carplay, Alexa integration, and Android Auto compatibility. The display also offers a split 10.3-inch screen and high resolution.
While not the most powerful SUV on this list, the Lexus UX offers 169 horsepower at 6,600 RPM. This vehicle has a 17.1-foot turning radius. You’ll like the fuel economy available with this vehicle. It offers 29 city MPG and 37 highway MPG. One downside to the Lexus UX is that the SUV does not have as much cabin space as some of the other SUVs in the line-up with just 17.1 cubic feet of cargo room.
2022 Lexus NX

2022 Lexus NX
The NX is a compact crossover SUV that has been completely redesigned, all the while maintaining most of the signature markers of a Lexus. The changes make a huge difference and include a full-width tail light and a hybrid engine. Plus, you’ll get four powertrain options, beginning with the NX250 base model and the turbocharged I-4 NX350. The NX 250 offers a 203-horsepower in-line engine and an excellent safety system. The trim models are also promising. The Lexus RX Premium comes with two-tone seating in black and white, complete with gorgeous gray stitching. The Special Edition trim comes in additional colors, including Eminent White Pearl and Caviar. These colors pair well with blacked-out 20-inch wheels and a gorgeous grille. 2022 Lexus GX

2022 Lexus GX

Inside, drivers enjoy a 10.3-inch touchscreen in addition to Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Under the hood, the GX offers a V-8 engine, but the fuel economy lags slightly behind the other options. The LX F Sport trim offers 22-inch wheels and a sportier interior. The engine is quite powerful, especially when paired with the 10-speed automatic transmission. Drivers have access to Apple CarPlay in addition to Android Auto, but the safety features are stellar too thanks to low-light pedestrian detection, road sign detection, and daytime bicyclists detection.

History of El Monte, CA
Welcome to friendly El Monte, where residents will greet you with a warm smile and a courteous welcome. Part of Los Angeles County, El Monte has a rich history, spanning its beginnings as a small farming community to its transformation into the lively, diverse city it’s become today. Whether you’re a lifelong local or a new visitor, it’s worth knowing some historical facts about this unique part of Southern California. Review this guide to learn a brief history of El Monte, California.
Origin of the El Monte Name

El Monte, CA
In the 18th and early 19th centuries, many Spanish soldiers and missionaries stopped along the banks of the San Gabriel River during the Portolá expedition, the first-known exploration of the area. They noted the thriving meadows between the San Gabriel and Rio Hondo rivers, home to willows, cattails, and wild grapevines. Taking the geography of the area into account, they named it “el monte,” an archaic Spanish word that means “wood” or “meadows.”
Later, pioneers chasing the promise of wealth during the California Gold Rush attempted to change the El Monte name. While residents at the time agreed, the name change never became official. In the 1850s, the California State Legislature designated the area as El Monte Township, later shortening it back to El Monte.
California Gold Rush
In the 1820s, El Monte became part of the Old Spanish Trail, a trade route extending from Santa Fe, New Mexico, to Southern California. In the late 1840s, thousands of people seeking gold used the Santa Fe and Old Spanish Trail routes to reach El Monte, which became known as the “End of the Santa Fe Trail.” While some only visited El Monte briefly before traveling elsewhere in the hopes of finding gold, other pioneers saw the potential in the area’s fertile land and decided to stay.
Many of El Monte’s first permanent residents were settlers from Texas, Arkansas, and Missouri, who built homesteads and began farming the land. The first El Monte residents established adobe brick dwellings and built a schoolhouse in the early 1850s, paving the way for El Monte to continue to grow and thrive throughout the 19th century. In 1870, the township of El Monte had a population of around 1,200 people. When Southern Pacific built a railroad depot in 1873, it spurred additional agricultural growth in the area.
Great Depression and World War II
After its incorporation in 1912, El Monte continued to attract settlers with its rich land, including fruit orchards and walnut fields. However, the Great Depression, an economic downturn in the 1930s, drastically altered the community of El Monte and others across the country. During the Depression-era, some residents chose to sublet tracts of farmland and find work elsewhere. El Monte became part of the New Deal’s resettlement program, which helped applicants find single-family housing. During this time, many people began arriving in El Monte as part of the Dust Bowl migration.
Shortly after the Great Depression, another defining event of the 20th century continued to bring changes to El Monte. World War II caused farming to decline as people found work in war-time factories. When the war ended, many people chose to move to El Monte and other areas of Southern California from across the country. Throughout the second half of the 20th century, El Monte continued to grow as the Los Angeles metropolitan area experienced substantial population increases.
El Monte Economy and Business
Agriculture has been a central part of El Monte’s economy since its beginnings, with farmers harvesting various fruit orchards, walnut groves, and vegetable fields. In the 20th century, the dairy industry began to prosper in El Monte, and Arden Farms, a dairy company, became a major employer in the area. Another company, Bodger Seed Ltd., grew flowering, seed-producing plants on large tracts of land, drawing thousands to see the fields when the flowers bloomed, earning the area the nickname “Las Flores.”
After World War II, many of the farms and dairies in El Monte shut down as new factories opened in town. As El Monte’s population continued to increase, the city built new schools and parks to support the growth. Throughout the second half of the 20th century, El Monte continued to transform into an urban city with a strong commercial and industrial economy.
Gay’s Lion Farm
A 1920s tourist attraction, Gay’s Lion Farm, is another notable chapter in El Monte’s economic history. Two former circus stars opened the attraction, which raised wild lions and other animals to perform acts for spectators. At one point, Gay’s Lion Farm had over 200 lions. Many of those animals starred in films in the 1920s and 1930s, and two of the lions even contributed to the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM) logo, used to introduce the studio’s blockbuster films.
Gay’s Lion Farm closed in 1942 due to World War II rationing, and the lions were sent to public zoos. Although the farm never reopened, you can still see a life-size lion statue at the site of the former Gay’s Lion Farm at Peck Road and Valley Boulevard. Another lion statue sits in front of the El Monte High School with an inscription honoring the farm’s legacy.
El Monte Today
From its humble beginnings, El Monte has grown into a bustling, thriving city with plenty to offer. Located 12 miles outside of Los Angeles, El Monte is home to an ethnically diverse population of nearly 110,000 people. Due to its location at the intersection of Interstates 10 and 605, El Monte is a major hub of the San Gabriel Valley.
The city continues to attract new commercial and retail businesses. In addition to being the home of Longo Toyota and Longo Lexus, the city’s major businesses include Home Depot, Sam’s Club, Vons Distribution Warehouse, and the Wells Fargo Operations Center. New schools, parks, and amenities, such as a new aquatic center, continue to help El Monte grow. For all these reasons and more, El Monte is truly a special place to live and work.

Lexus RX vs Lexus NX Comparison
Whether you want a fuel-efficient SUV for commuting or a comfortable vehicle for family road trips, ride in luxury when you choose a Lexus SUV. Two of the most popular Lexus SUVs, the compact NX and the midsize RX, offer a wide range of premium features to enhance your driving experience. If you’re considering one of these SUVs, you may want to know which one fits your preferences and lifestyle the best. Review this guide to learn about the key differences between the Lexus RX and NX to help you choose the right luxury SUV for you.
Performance

2023 Lexus RX
Both the Lexus NX and Lexus RX offer powerful performance in a luxury SUV. Recent upgrades to new NX models include an enhanced powertrain for superior performance, while the RX delivers slightly more horsepower to provide a thrilling driving experience. Available drive modes on both SUVs offer steering and suspension enhancements for precise handling on the road. Both the Lexus NX and RX come standard with front-wheel drive, though all-wheel drive is an option for both SUVs, providing increased traction on any road surface. In addition, both SUVs are available as hybrid models with impressive driving ranges and increased efficiency.
Size
One of the biggest differences between the Lexus NX and RX is their size. The Lexus NX, a compact crossover, can seat five people comfortably with ample cargo volume. In comparison, the Lexus RX, a midsize SUV, is taller, wider, and longer than the NX, which creates more interior and cargo space. While most RX models seat five passengers, some offer an optional third row of seats, allowing seven passengers to ride comfortably in the SUV. In these models, you can fold down the second-and third-row seats for maximum cargo space, whether you’re hauling gear, equipment, or luggage.
Interior
When you want premium interior comforts, you can’t go wrong with either the Lexus NX or RX. Both SUVs offer top-of-the-line interior features, from premium upholstery to refined materials. Some commonly shared interior features include dual-zone automatic climate control, a power tilt-and-telescopic steering column, and power-adjustable front seats. In new models, the RX offers various other enhanced features, such as a standard memory system for the power driver’s seat, rearview mirrors, and steering wheel. These options may be available on some NX models.
Technology
Both the Lexus NX and RX come equipped with state-of-the-art technology to keep you connected, no matter where the road takes you. The two SUVs each offer a sizable multimedia touch-screen display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration so you can access your maps, stream music, or listen to podcasts. A premium sound system comes standard in both the Lexus NX and RX, or upgrade the audio system with additional packages available for both SUVs.
New models of both the NX and RX allow you to use the Lexus app on your phone to start the vehicle remotely, schedule service appointments, and more. Bluetooth and USB smartphone connectivity are standard features in new Lexus NX and RX models, and wireless charging is available. If you purchase a brand-new Lexus RX, it comes with three years of the Lexus Enform Remote service, which allows you to check the engine, monitor fuel levels, and more using your smartphone, smartwatch, and other enabled devices.
Safety

2022 Lexus NX 450H
When you drive a Lexus NX or RX, you can feel confident behind the wheel. Both SUVs come standard with the Lexus Safety System+, which provides a comprehensive suite of advanced safety features. Some of the common safety features you’ll find in both the Lexus NX and RX include:
- Pre-collision system with pedestrian detection: This safety feature detects oncoming vehicles or pedestrians to help avoid a collision, automatically applying the brakes in some situations.
- Lane departure alert with steering assist: Using a high-resolution camera, this feature monitors lane markers and provides an alert when the vehicle drifts into another lane. In some cases, it takes temporary measures to keep the vehicle on the right path.
- Backup camera: Both the Lexus NX and RX come equipped with a standard backup camera, which provides a comprehensive view of the area behind the vehicle when you’re reversing or backing into a parking spot.
- Road sign assist: This feature uses a built-in camera to display speed limits and other useful road sign information in the vehicle’s display panel.
- Intelligent high beams: This safety feature provides enhanced illumination when you’re driving in the evening. It automatically defaults to high-beam mode and adjusts to low-beam mode when it senses another vehicle approaching.
Price
When purchasing a new vehicle, price is an important factor for many people. Both the Lexus NX and RX offer the lowest prices on the base models, with upper trims increasing in price as the vehicles add upgraded premium features. In 2022, the base NX 250 trim has a starting MSRP of $39,025, while the base RX 350 with front-wheel drive starts at $46,645 MSRP. This RX model also comes in an all-wheel-drive version, which starts at $48,045 MSRP.
Often, you can find used and certified pre-owned Lexus NX and RX models for comparable prices, depending on the model year, trim, and additional features.
