Design
Inspired by Japanese aesthetics, the 2018 LS is modern and innovative yet classic inside and out. Its profile is longer and lower than past models, and it’s the first Lexus sedan to feature six side windows as well as flush-surface windows that integrate seamlessly with the body. Its outer-slide moonroof leaves plenty of headroom despite the lowered stance, letting you enjoy the L.A. weather from the comfort of the beautiful cabin.
It also features the classic Lexus spindle grille, with a new mesh design that gives a textured, three-dimensional look to the front end. You’ll also have the choice between five wheel designs, including a 20-inch electroplated version with a hollow rim to reduce road noise.
The LS has a luxe cabin with hand-pleated leather detailing in the door panels and hand-crafted Kiriko glass ornamentation. It was so well-received at the Detroit Auto Show this year that it won the 2017 EyesOn Design Award for Design Excellent – Interior Design.
“I suggest that you simply open the door and experience that immediate, intuitive sense that you’re looking at an interior that is unlike any luxury car before,” said chief designer Suga in a press release.
Powertrain
The all-new LS 500 is powered by a specially designed 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 that gives you both power and fuel economy. The engine is mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission, making the LS the first vehicle in its class to feature such an advanced dynamic control system. The new generation bests the previous generation’s V8, making 415 horsepower and 442 lb-ft of torque thanks to a twin turbo developed with Lexus’s F1 technology. The elegant sedan goes from zero to 60 in just 4.5 seconds.
The LS 500h was built with the Lexus Multi Stage Hybrid System, combining a 3.5-liter V6 engine with two electric motors and a lithium-ion battery, mated to a continuously variable transmission. The system makes a net 354 horsepower and gets you from zero to 60 in 5.4 seconds.
Safety
The all-new LS will feature the Lexus Safety System+ standard on all models. The suite of technologies includes a Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection, Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist, Lane Keep Assist, High-Speed Dynamic Radar Cruise Control. The 2018 sedan also comes available with the Advanced Safety Package, which includes the world’s first Intuitive Pedestrian Detection with Active Steering, as well as color Heads-Up Display.

Lexus LC 500
The all-new LC 500 is powered by a 5.0-liter V8 engine mated to a class-leading 10-speed automatic transmission. The powertrain makes an impressive 471 horsepower and 398 lb-ft of torque for the ultimate in acceleration and control. In fact, this luxury coupe takes you from 0 to 60 in just 4.4 seconds. (Those of you looking for fuel efficiency will be happy to know that the 2018 LC also comes in a hybrid model – the 500h – that makes 354 horsepower and has a 0-60 time of 4.5 seconds.)
BMW 650i
Under the hood, the 2017 BMW 650i has a 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine that makes 445 horsepower and 480 lb-ft of torque, mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. It accelerates to 60 MPH in 4.5 seconds. While the BMW 6 Series does not include a hybrid model, the 640i gets up to 29 MPG, but sacrifices a good amount of horsepower.

Lexus LC 500
The 2018 LC 500 comes standard with a Pioneer audio system with high-mounted widescreen display, as well as a suite of active safety technology, including Adaptive Cruise Control, Automatic Pre-Collision Braking, and Lane-Keeping Assist. It also features a fixed glass panel roof, LED headlamps, magnesium paddle shifters, and a 12-speaker audio system. The 2017 C-Class has standard Collision Prevention Assist Plus, Attention Assist, Pre-Safe, rearview camera, and adaptive braking. However, its blind spot monitoring system is an optional feature on lower trim levels, and a surround-view camera and parking assist are available via premium packages only. The mbrace Secure, similar to Lexus’s Safety Connect, is included, but only for the first six months of ownership.
The Mercedes sport sedan model also earned a 5-Star Overall Rating from the NHTSA but scored just four stars in evaluations for frontal crash and rollover.

The 2017 LX 570 is powered by a 5.7-liter V8 engine that churns out 383 horsepower and 403 lb-ft of torque, mated to an 8-speed sequential-shift automatic Electronically Controlled Transmission. The Lexus ute has an elegant feel behind the wheel, but don’t let that fool – this is a legitimate SUV with a truck-style body-on-frame chassis and three-mode independent suspension, capable of towing up to 7,000 pounds.

Infiniti Q50
The 2017 Q50 has available driver assistance tech, but it will cost extra. It comes with available Backup Collision Intervention, Blind Spot Warning, Blind Spot Intervention, Predictive Forward Collision Warning, Forward Emergency Braking, and Lane Departure Warning.
At best, one would consider the 2017 Q50’s crash test records spotty. While it did score best-possible ratings for moderate front overlap impact, side impact, rear crash, and roof strength from the IIHS, it was not rated for small front overlap impact. Additionally, the NHTSA has only evaluated the model for rollover, where it earned five stars.

This drivetrain makes 467 horsepower and 389 lb-ft of torque and goes from zero to 60 MPH in 4.5 seconds. Its torque vectoring differential gives you control even in high-speed situations, while the Brembo braking system lets you stop on a dime. The F-Adaptive Variable Suspension has 30 levels of damping for precise response and control, and the first-of-its-kind linear-solenoid monotube shocks give you the best ride quality and nimble cornering.
Styling and Interior
The GS F has a bold design, with an assertive front end and the Lexus signature spindle grille. Styling
Designers took the essence of a racing coupe and made it distinctly Lexus, with a low-set spindle grille, signature F badging, LED headlights, an assertive hood vent, quad exhaust, and front cooling ducts. The 2017 RC-F also features an optional speed-activated rear wing, which responds to acceleration above 50 MPH to increase aerodynamics while keeping the coupe grounded. When not in use, the rear wing retreats into the trunk lid.
Inside, the RC-F has high-back sport seats, set low to the ground and providing support and comfort even at high speeds.
